Look around you, there are more entrepreneurs than icecream vendors now. It’s nice to be an entrepreneur, and obviously everyone can be one, if they desire.. and work on it. But seems like most people just desire to be one, and become one.. in their own imaginary world. Let me clarify..
aspiring Model isn’t same as a Model
aspiring Actress isn’t same as an Actress
similarly, aspiring Entrepreneur isn’t the same as an Entrepreneur
Entrepreneur, is quite a distinct being. Every entrepreneur has a story to tell, a success story, or a success story gone wrong, but they are the people who initiate something, try to make a change, who succeed, or fail or are in the process of finding it out. But so many people simply aspire to be one like them, and start calling themselves as entrepreneurs.
Unlike doctors and engineers, it is not so easy to be an Entrepreneur. There is no degree or diploma, certificates or colleges which can make you an Entrepreneur. And no.. if tomorrow you write in your Twitter Bio “- a student, gamer and Entrepreneur”, even that won’t make you one. So what does it take to be an Entrepreneur???????
Its BUSINESS.
An Entrepreneur is a person who starts his own Business, leads it and directs it. Have you done that? Have you even tried doing it? If Yes, great, nice to meet you.. if No, then please stop making a fool of yourself calling yourself an Entrepreneur.
Problem is when you already think that you have achieved it, you might work lesser or may not work at all to achieve it. Besides, there is nothing wrong with being an aspirant, everyone is one at a time and that is also a phase of the process. Its a good thing as long as we don’t confuse it completely and delude ourselves to believe that we have achieved what we aspired for.

After Reading this, 99 % of them will edit their fb and twitter bio
Good one..
haha… hope so.. was feelin too lonely being an aspirant
lol
, but its wrong to judge ppl, perhaps dey had dere own entrepreneurial story to share..
thts wat i wrote above.. hving done an effort.. is enuf to call 1self.. but i know countless ppl whu call dem so widout an effort
A business can be as small as 'selling donuts', but effort is what counts…Even if some1 is not earning, but has the ideas, the vision..he may classify as an entre..!Sumhow d word is misused..but what if the person is not an entrepreneur, and people call him
sure… by business.. i didnt mean as big as Twitter or Google, but sumthin tht is keepin u busy… a failed effort is an effort too.. qualifies u to be an entre.. but its like a race u cant leave in middle.. gotta complete.. if sum1 is still so keen on callin 1self so.. rename 1self as like entreprenuer singh bali
True.At times its so bugging to see " Entrepreneur" in a bio of a 15 year old.(In Twitter) =PPeople are perhaps misusing the word Or fooling themselves.
age shudnt matter… monik n mohnish r gud example.. makin money frm their blogs..besides, i hv seen many ppl even elder dan me acting like entrep.. wannabes
ROFL…I really want some people to read this note.. *ahem ahem
nice note! let me copy some for my wall..
Thank you Sandeep!
I feel Annkur is a better example. He makes more!
We are raging a debate here, How can Bloggers classify themselves as entrep..? If they are making money online via adsense/affilate's..then all the adsense users are entrepreneurs !
I agree with Masoom.
blogging can be a business.. its big enuf to be called an industry.. e.g. Darren Rowse is an entrepreneur
It's not to offend anyone, But this is my basic defintion of an Entrepreneur – Age: 21 +, Graduate, If not graduate…atleast finished high school/college..Running a startup with atleast 5 follower(employees), with an office(not virtual), and should have a decent ROI..can be nything, but should be measurable if sum1 asks " what is ur turnover"..should have a vision for d next 5 years"
Yeah, even seth godin is an entrepreneur according to wiki…and so is darren rowse..
he is.. not cause of blog, cuz he dont make money frm blog, but cuz he made squidoo.. which.. btw had only 4 employees, less than ur specification
John Chow is tagged, it would be exciting to see him comment on this
i asked Seth what he thinks of it.. he replied "quite a kafuffle"
Hey there, nice discussion and a nice note.In my definition there can be many type of entrepreneurs. Even Mukesh Ambani is an entrepreneur though he inherited a lot from Dhirubhai, but in general if I am to define an entrepreneur in today's world – it has to be someone who RISKS it for a VISION.This risk can be:1. Leaving a high paying secure job and starting up2. Investing $$ in the idea may be even by taking a loan to fund the idea.3. Committing to the business by roping in the initial partners / employeesOne reason I don't classify many students as entrepreneurs is because they are in college / school, studying. They aren't working at the cost of a job or at a time when they have the pressure to perform. And at the same time they aren't investing in an office space and inheriting overheads. Thanks, Monish. I passed college 3 years back, but when I was in college I had an office and I considered myself and entrepreneur only then. Making more or none isn't necessary. I so love sandeeps perspective. Most entrepreneurs make a loss… I had my share of losses awell. But RISK is what I put at the biggest criteria to be called an entrepreneur. Not operations, no of employees or money!
thanks Ankur, agree wid u
+1 – I agree to Annkur, Perhaps one of the most imp. qualities to be an entrepreneur is to Leave school
E.g:- Bill Gates, Mark zuckerberg(he left college)That is 'Risk' !!
hehehe… sum1 told me.. or maybe i read sumwhere.. dont leave ur job cuz ur makin enuf money frm business, but leave it cuz u dont hv enuf time for job nemore….
Sandeep! This is absolutely fan-freaking-tastic.I agree with your views and in fact share the same. Now a days everyone calls themselves entrepreneurs. LOL. Entrepreneurship is taking risk and much much more.@Pritesh Haha! Yeah man, I'm 16 y.o. student and am pursuing my studies and… am an entrepreneur- if one goes to see the work I have done and am doing I can say I am decently established dealing corporates, planning, taking risks and evolving from a one man show to a complete full fledged team. …but YES you are right you'll find a million of those other teens out there who boast of being entrepreneurs without dealing with the depth of the word …. And some even call themselves "Serial Entrepreneurs"…
thanks farrhad.. this whole thing reminds me of the era of hackers and wannabe hackers..hackers used to write codes n tools… wannabes used to use those tools to hack ppl..
lol
In a nutshell, entrepreneurship is inspiration from within. Inspiration that enables one to have the audacity of hope, take calculated risks, face the trials and tribulations, and last but not the least, take on motivational leadership to ensure smooth riding of the enterprise.
@prerna applauds
That's some strong words…better than the wiki definition
Nice one prerna..
+1 whoa
Brazen attempt to smash out all those wannabe entrepreneurs who just keep saying and do nothing. If you've got it in you, stand up and prove it to the world.
thanks Monik
@ Sandeep, Masoom & Annkur Thanks:)
What exactly is the motive of this note?
to differentiate aspirants from real entrepreneurs…
hmmm good
Really, nice one Sandeep. And the discussion above adds superb depth & perspective.@Annkur Very well comprehended.
thanks Mitesh
